Real Application Clusters
(RAC) is Oracles technology to allow database processing
to occur concurrently on 2 or more nodes. Without RAC only a
single physical machine can provide the database processing
at any one time.
RAC provides 2 core facilities:
Failover with 2 or more physical
nodes available to provide database processing, if the Oracle
instance on one node fails, client connections on the failed
node can be automatically transferred to the surviving nodes
Scale-up If a single physical
machine with a maximum complement of CPUs and memory can
support the database processing required for a Documentum
installation for 1000 users, then RAC can allow additional
user numbers to be supported by adding additional machines.
The resources on this page will help you
decide whether your Documentum installation needs Oracle RAC.
