Documentum on Oracle RAC
Real Application Clusters (RAC) is Oracle’s technology to allow database processing to occur concurrently on 2 or more nodes. Without RAC only a single physical machine can provide the database processing at any one time.

RAC provides 2 core facilities:

  • Failover – with 2 or more physical nodes available to provide database processing, if the Oracle instance on one node fails, client connections on the failed node can be automatically transferred to the surviving nodes

  • Scale-up – If a single physical machine with a maximum complement of CPUs and memory can support the database processing required for a Documentum installation for 1000 users, then RAC can allow additional user numbers to be supported by adding additional machines.
  • The resources on this page will help you decide whether your Documentum installation needs Oracle RAC.
