Benchmarking and Load testing
are separate activities that are united by a common approach.
Benchmarking is usually used in platform comparison exercises
(e.g. benchmarking Documentum Content Server performance running
on SQL Server versus Oracle). Load Testing is more usually undertaken
to prove the capacity of an existing system.
A flexible strategy is developed
that incorporates:
Workload characterisation
Use of 3rd party load tools (e.g.
Mercury loadrunner) or bespoke scripts
Script customisation
System & Monitoring set-up
Test execution
Test analysis and report preparation
